OF VICTORIA COUNTY
ABOUT THE WORK: This beautiful fine art print is a unique and historically significant compilation of the earliest Texas ranchers and their cattle brands featuring the family name, brand and year the brand was registered or transferred. The first Texas cattle brand was recorded in 1832 though registration was not required at the time. By 1848, unregistered brands were deemed insufficient evidence of ownership in cases of cattle theft. This prompted registration of many Texas brands which had been in use since the early 1830's.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: The original edition was designed and produced by Leopold Morris, noted journalist, politician and historian dedicated to documenting and preserving the history of Victoria County, Texas. This 2013 print edition is the first authorized reproduction of the original 1947 issue of PIONEER CATTLEMEN OF VICTORIA COUNTY.
